ORA R1 electric car under 9.000 USD

Great Wall Motor presents its new urban electric vehicle under the name the ORA R1.

The small urban car will cost only $8,680 after incentives and it will have almost 200 miles of range, according to the automaker.

Ning Shuyong, general manager of ORA and vice president of Great Wall Motor, said :

“As a new market entrant, ORA R1 delivers an unprecedented experience to drivers. ORA replaces the traditional sales, service, spare parts and surveys (4S) dealership-centered model that is common in China with a network consisting of ORA Home, experience centers and smart outlets in the central business districts of Chinese cities. In addition, the big data cloud that is created as the result of the information collected from the ORA app, the ORA shopping site and the Tmall e-shop opens the way to the development of multiple scenarios for offline sales and services as well as new transportation services for both drivers and passengers.”

Based on the concept vehicle unveiled earlier this year, the ORA R1 is equipped with a 33 kWh battery pack for a range of up to 194 miles although the real range under real driving conditions is expected  to be about 150miles. Not bad for an urban daily commute vehicle.

ORA R1 is equipped with only a 35 kW electric motor,Top speed is expected to be about 100 km/h (~62 mph) which should be fine for its stated urban purpose and the occasional highway entrance.
The big advantage of this car is its cost. The Great Wall Motor says that the “subsidized price of the new model, ORA R1, will be 8,680 USD.

The vehicle is going for sale right now and it comes with a three-year or 120,000 km guarantee for the whole vehicle, and an eight-year or 150,000 km guarantee for core components.

For the moment it is only available in China, but Great Wall Motor has previously shown interest and bringing its new ORA electric brand to the rest of the world.
